Venice was a centre of a sea trade. Ships from all over the world were gathering in the harbours and canals to deliver goods brought from far away. This tapestry captures the everyday life of Venice of that good old time: Piazza San Marco full of small boats and gondolas. Of course these gondolas can be still seen today, but today they carry tourists, not the valuable cargo, as they did in the old days.
